vermin

A land plant in the wrong place is called a "weed"; marine plants and algae in the wrong place are called "fouling;" and birds and animals in the wrong place are called "vermin" or "pests". Perhaps I should say "unwelcome" rather than "in the wrong place".

If a bird or animal is called a pest, it is probably because it eats farm or garden crops such as apples or potatoes. The word "pest" implies that you want it to stop eating your apples or potatoes.

If a bird or animal is called vermin, it probably kills game animals, or it competes with game animals for food, or it may give them parasites. The word "vermin" implies that you want to kill it.

By extension: It may possibly be OK to call your neighbour's children or dogs "pests" if they make a lot of noise, but you should never, never call them "vermin".
